Overview - which is the best copper knee brace?

There are many sleeves on the market with copper in them. The logic behind this is that the copper could improve your well being - in reality no studies noticed any such effect. In fact, one of the main manufacturers had to settle with the FTC for deceptive advertising - more info here, here and here.

Compression in general can help with lot of knee issues, in fact it's a part of the RICE (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate) protocol which is often used for various knee problems. So in the end using a "copper" sleeve could help your health, but it will not be due to the copper content.

Most of the "copper" sleeves are very thin, so these are ideal only if you want light compression. For better compression check the Blitzu or FitXpert sleeves. On the upper hand these light sleeves will not hinder your movements, so they are compatible with any sport including running, walking, dancing, yoga, hiking, basketball, football, tennis, and soccer.

While these sleeves are fairly generic, the Copper Fit Pro sleeve stands out as it has kinesiology bands which actually provide some support.

The Copper Fit Pro brace

The Copper Fit Pro brace has a special kinesiology band which makes it stand out from the rest, as this can actually provide some support to your knees. The silicone anti-slip strip is a nice touch. If the kinesiology band is the same material as the sleeve, only different color, you got a counterfeit, return it.

Sizing the Copper Fit Pro brace

Similar to other brace in this category, it's sized by measuring the circumference of your thigh 5 inches from the center of your knee.

CircumferenceSize code
15.5 ... 16.5 inchesM
17 ... 19 inchesL
19.5 ... 21 inchesXL
21.5 ... 23 inchesXXL

The length of the sleeves is about 11 inches, but it depends on the size too.

Sporting with the sleeve

This sleeve is light, with light compression and no strong support. It will help your knee by compressing it, but it will not take over much load from your knees. So it's best for those whose knee reacts well to compression. The sleeve was not designed for crossfit or squatting.

Helping your health

The sleeve helps by compressing your knee joint, so it will reduce the pain you feel if you had ACL, MCL, PCL or meniscus tear. It also helps if you have knee pain from arthritis.

As the material is thin the compression it can provide is fairly limited, choose this one if you do not want strong compression.

The sleeve is fairly thin.
The sleeve is fairly thin.

Wearing the sleeve

The sleeve is very thin so you can wear it under your clothes if you'd like to. To wear it above your pants you'll either have to size up, or have very thin pants.

Having the sleeve on for hours works well too. You may even sleep in it, just make sure it does not cut off your circulation.

The sleeve only comes in black, just as most other copper-infused sleeves. It has anti-slip strips at the top and the bottom too so it will not slip.

Washing it

It's best to hand wash this sleeve and just let it dry. Washing on a delicate cycle works well too. Never twist or tumble-dry.

The kinesiology band has a stronger material than the sleeve.
The kinesiology band has a stronger material than the sleeve.

Material and quality

The sleeve is made of polyester and spandex. There is no neoprene in the sleeve and there's no information if it contains latex, so take care if you have latex allergy. As with other sleeves which contain copper, using it in an MRI machine is not recommended. The silicone anti-slip strips can cause a rash for some.

Good to know

The sleeve comes as a single, only sizes between M and XXL are available. The sleeve is not prone to slipping which is a plus.

The issues

The material is too thin so it cannot provide strong compression, it provides no support. There's no information if there's latex in it, the copper gives no benefit but probably does not harm either.

There seem to be counterfeits going around with worse quality - you can know you got a counterfeit if the kinesiology band is just painted on the sleeve and has the same material.

The Copper Fit (original) brace

The Copper Fit brace is a thin-and-light sleeve with minimal compression and a silicone anti-slip strip. The Pro version is probably a better choice, as it's just too thin to do anything.

Sizing the Copper Fit brace

Similarly to the other copper sleeves, you'll need to measure your thigh 5 inches from the center of your knee. The sizing chart is available as an image on the product's page too.

Thigh circumferenceSize to get
15.5 ... 16.5 inchesM
17 ... 19 inchesL
19.5 ... 21 inchesXL
21.5 ... 23 inchesXXL

Sporting with the sleeve

As other copper sleeves this one has thin material too, so it will not provide much compression or support.

On the upside this also means that you can do almost any sport wearing these sleeves: walking, running, jogging, dancing, hiking, playing basketball, football, soccer, etc.

The brace will not help with your crossfit or squatting performance as it's just too thin. For these sports get a proper neoprene sleeve, for example the Bear KompleX sleeve.

Helping your health

The brace can help with your arthritis and tears, as it compresses your knee. The compression can help with a lot of knee issues, so you can expect improvement wearing this sleeve. On the downside the sleeve is just too thin to provide good compression.

Wearing the sleeve

Like the other copper-infused sleeves this one has thin material too, so you can easily wear it under your clothes, it will not be noticeable. The sleeve only comes in black, for more colors (and no copper) check the SB SOX sleeve.

Usually the sleeve does not get too hot, still expect to sweat more if you wear it on a hot summer day.

Wearing the sleeve for multiple hours or at night works well too.

Washing it

Either hand-wash the sleeves in warm water, or go for a delicate cycle in the washing machine. Once washed just let the sleeve dry by itself.

Material and quality

The sleeve's material is spandex and polyester. There's no information on the neoprene content of the sleeve. The top and bottom strips may contain latex so take care if you have latex allergy.

According to the manufacturer the copper content is good against odors.

Good to know

The sleeve comes as a single, for both legs you'll need to order two. The sleeve is made in China.

The issues

As there's no evidence that the copper helps your health, there's no point in buying a sleeve for the copper content. The material is too thin so it can't provide much compression. It does not have an anti-slip silicone strip.

The Copperjoint brace

The Copperjoint brace it again too thin for any compression, and has the silicone strip you can expect on these sleeves. Go for it if you want to wear something that provides very slight compression.

Sizing the Copperjoint brace

To size your brace, measure the circumference of your thigh 5 inches from the center of your kneecap. The sizing chart is available as the second image on the product's page.

CircumferenceSize code
13.5 ... 14.5 inchesS
15 ... 16.5 inchesM
17.2 ... 18.5 inchesL
19 ... 20.5 inchesXL
21 ... 22.5 inchesXXL

The length of the sleeve varies with the size, it's about 13 inches from top to bottom.

Sporting with the sleeve

The Copperjoint sleeve is thin and light sleeve, good for it's compression, but it does not give much support. So you will feel better using it for running, walking, hiking, jogging or any other sport which requires dynamism but not much support. It's not really good for squatting or heavy lifting.

The sleeve breathes well, so your knee will not get soaked wearing it. You can wear the sleeve in the pool too, just make sure you wash it in running water afterwards.

Helping your health

As the sleeve compresses your knee joint it's effective against ACL, MCL, PCL and meniscus tears.

You will feel less pain so you will be able to walk, run and hike more. The sleeve is very effective at compressing and stabilizing your knee, which means instant improvement.

Wearing the sleeve

As the sleeve is thin you can wear it under your clothing, it won't be visible unless you wear something tight and thin. It hardly ever slips as it has anti-slip strips, and rarely bunches up in the back.

The anti-slip strips are made of silicone, and could cause skin irritation in some.

You can wear them above your pants too, unless your pants are too thick. Wearing it this way will could make it slip more often.

The brace only comes in black, with a copper logo at the top. If you'd like something with more colors, check the SB SOX brace.

Washing it

As the sleeve is thin it's really easy to wash and dry, either hand wash it or wash it on a delicate cycle. After washing just let them it dry as twisting could damage the sleeve.

The sleeve dries overnight so you will not need to buy another.

Material and quality

The sleeve is made of "copper nylon" and spandex. It is latex free so you will not get latex allergy from it. The copper nylon is probably just a marketing gimmick, the copper in the sleeve will not have any positive or negative effect.

The sleeve contains copper, do not use it if you have copper allergy. The copper could cause issues with MRI machines and at the airport security.

The sleeve contains no neoprene.

Wearing the sleeve

The sleeve is thin enough to wear under clothing without becoming visible. It has silicone anti-slip strip so it stays in place. The anti-slip strips works best on your skin, so it may slip if you try to wear it over your clothing. As it's thin it breathes fairly well.

The sleeve only comes in black, just as most other copper-infused sleeves.

Washing it

The sleeve does not dry that fast, so you may need to buy four if you always want to wear them.
